You've picked your spot and dropped your line. Now you want to know what's happening below you.
Accuphy PingLive brings live underwater sonar imagery to a compatible phone or tablet. Ben at Online Outfitters reports that it performs very well in cold weather. Here's what to know if you're considering it for your next ice fishing setup.
Use your phone or tablet as your sonar screen
PingLive connects to a supported iOS or Android device through its included Wi-Fi router and the free Accuphy Sonar app. The processor is built into the transducer, so there's no separate sonar black box.
Want to use the phone or tablet you already carry? Check your exact model against Accuphy's compatibility lists first.
See directly beneath your hole
Down view covers 135 degrees and can look straight beneath an ice hole. Panoramic and Forward modes offer other viewing options. The listed maximum depth or distance is 300 feet (91 metres), although results will depend on your setup and conditions.
The reinforced 20-foot cable gives you room to arrange the components. The box includes the transducer, router, panoramic mount, barrel mount and shaft mount. Review the installation videos to choose a mounting arrangement that suits how you fish.
Before you head out
Plan your power source along with your mounting. The router lists an input of 11 to 18 VDC, and the product page calls for a source capable of at least 6A output. A battery isn't listed in the box contents.
Keep your phone and router sheltered, organize the cables and follow the installation guidance. If you're reusing equipment, check mounting fit and electrical requirements rather than assuming the parts will work together.
A couple of common questions
Will my phone work? Check Accuphy's Apple or Android compatibility list for your exact device.
What about warranty? The listing includes a two-year Accuphy manufacturer warranty.
